It is in the city of Liuyang, China,
that the majority of the fireworks used for crowds around the world are produced.
Based on documentary footage shot by themselves in Chinese pyrotechnic factories, and choreographic sequences gleaned from YouTube, Amaury Vanderborght and Cathy Blisson create an outdoor show, on the edge of filmic performance, musical and visual trip, and fireworks display.
Playing with the metronomic dimension of the images, the duo questions the mechanics underlying the use of entertainment fireworks as a weapon of mass diversion.
National commemorations, sports demonstrations, pop concerts, and other major popular gatherings... What images and symbols do we find drowned in a screen of smoke in the face of the explosion spectacle?
